Solar Panel Prices in Egypt Rise Amid Dollar Surge (Exclusive)

Solar panel prices in Egypt are gradually rising, influenced by a combination of local and global factors, most notably dollar exchange rate fluctuations, increased import and shipping costs, as well as rising demand and raw material prices used in manufacturing.
The impact of these factors extends beyond panel prices to the total cost of building power plants, including transformers, batteries, cables, and installation supplies, which in turn affects the cost of residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
According to data from the specialized Energy Platform (headquartered in Washington), a comparison of current prices with previous levels reveals a significant increase in solar panel prices in Egypt, which had ranged between 5.65 and 8 Egyptian pounds per watt in November 2025.
*(US Dollar = 55.54 Egyptian Pounds).
Currently, prices have risen to range between 7.90 and 9.10 Egyptian pounds per watt, representing an increase of over 30% in some categories and more than 70% in others compared to the lowest levels of last year.
Experts, in exclusive statements to the specialized Energy Platform, attributed this rise to the link between solar panel prices in Egypt and the dollar exchange rate, given the local market's reliance on imported products, particularly panels manufactured in China.
The cost of importing solar panels
Ahmed Hassan, an engineer at a solar energy company, noted that the rise in the dollar’s value increases the cost of importing solar panels, which in turn affects retail prices in the local market, especially when factoring in maritime shipping costs, insurance, and customs duties.
He added that disruptions in maritime navigation and geopolitical tensions increase transportation burdens and delay the arrival of shipments, thereby raising the final cost of imported products and affecting their availability among suppliers.
He pointed out that global solar panel prices are also influenced by fluctuations in the prices of raw materials used in manufacturing, primarily polysilicon, as well as the costs of producing solar cells and other components. He noted that changes in production levels, global supply, and competition among manufacturers play a role in determining price trends.
He highlighted that an increase in the supply of solar panels in Egypt and a decline in raw material costs could contribute to lower prices, while rising production costs or increased demand relative to supply could push prices upward.
He explained that the global expansion of renewable energy projects and the growing adoption of solar energy systems by companies and consumers are boosting demand for solar panels and installation accessories. This increased demand may exert pressure on prices and affect product availability in markets, including the Egyptian market.

Solar Panel Prices in Egypt 2026
The latest price list published by the Solar Exchange revealed variations in the prices of solar panels in Egypt, depending on the brand and production capacity.
Reasons for the Increase in Solar Panel Prices
When asked about the reasons behind the rise in solar panel prices in Egypt, Hazem Mansour, a specialist at one of the companies, stated that the volume of available inventory with suppliers and the timing of new shipment arrivals are factors that influence pricing.
He noted that delays in imports or a surge in demand over a short period could lead to price increases, especially if supply fails to meet market needs.
Adding in an exclusive statement to the Energy Platform, he said that the availability of sufficient panel quantities with suppliers, alongside increased competition among companies, could help mitigate price pressures.
He clarified that the impact of these factors varies from one company to another, depending on inventory levels, import costs, and the price segments they target.
Regarding price expectations for the coming period, he explained that market trends will depend on developments in the dollar exchange rate, shipping and import costs, global price levels, and the balance between supply and demand locally.
Engineer Hazem Mansour pointed out that a decline in prices remains tied to improvements in these factors, particularly a reduction in import costs and the stabilization of supply chains, alongside sufficient inventory availability and increased competition among suppliers, which could alleviate pressure on solar panel prices in the Egyptian market.
Exchange rate movements
For his part, solar energy specialist Engineer Atif Gab Allah explained that solar cell prices have risen by approximately 5 to 17 cents, reaching levels close to 200 Egyptian pounds per kilowatt, attributing this increase to movements in the dollar exchange rate.
He noted that the rise of the dollar from levels of 49 Egyptian pounds to around 55 and 56 Egyptian pounds has been reflected in solar cell prices, contributing to an increase in their cost by approximately 21 cents, according to his estimates.
Gab Allah expressed his hope that this increase would be temporary, expecting prices to fall again if the conditions affecting them improve and the dollar rate decreases, which could alleviate the burden on consumers and those working in the solar energy market.
